Iran – Discovering the Traces of Old Persia in the Islamic Republic – Arriving in Tehran. Episode 1

Tehran: The statue of Liberty

What goes through your head when somebody tells you about Iran? Probably bearded men with gunshots (although this image is much more typical for the neighboring Afghanistan), women with veils, bearded Ayatollahs, crowds that whip themselves … Well, this is pretty much what’s to be seen on the TV. Oh well, thanks God, there’s also talk about the Iranian nuclear bomb, but this is usually without TV footage. Instead once you reach Tehran, you’ll discover a modern country (maybe one of the most modern countries in the Far East with the exception of the Petrol Golf), an extremely friendly and welcoming nation of people (maybe one of the most hospitable in this world that I have ever rarely met) with a passion that is unequaled in the world for classic culture (please tell me the country where 700 years old poets are worshiped like super stars and anyone on the streets can recite entire pages out of their verses), a country that is extremely clean (there is no comparison to their Arab neighbors from the west), finally you’ll have a big surprise. Things to do in Paris: climb Eiffel Tower

Paris has a special place somewhere in my heart. It was one of my first trips that I did when I was a student in Holland and a trip like this can only remain somewhere in a corner of my most loved memories…I discovered Paris on Christmas, I have been to Paris during summer and spring time, but also in the fall… I have strolled at night on the Champs Élysées and I have climbed on the Eiffel tower at day time and at night time…I have enjoyed the poetry of the mornings in front of the Notre Dame, but also the ugly autumn rains on the Seine…So Paris couldn’t have missed from this series of information and tips in order to make your trip to the capital of France cheaper and more pleasant 🙂 read more…

Things to do in London: visit Tower Bridge

Some believe that London is the most beautiful city in Europe. Others say it’s Paris, Rome or Barcelona. One thing’s certain. A lot of those that stepped onto the shores of the Thames came back mesmerized. I admit, I haven’t been to London so many times and I stayed too little to really feel it. I have never reached it in my first travel years, in those romantic years when I used to sleep on the trains, dribble the border officers and every day I was happy to discover a new city. I always found it hard to get the UK visa so I haven’t been to London more than three times and I only took it by foot in one day in 1996…I’m lying, there’s also half of a day in 2006 during an awful rain. All the rests are bits and pieces or various other experiences, but not really walking around and feeling London…maybe I will one day, in’shallah! read more…
