Ski in Austria

“Do you know how to ski?” asked me Renate from Kaprun-Zell am See region tourism office from Austria. “No, I have never skied” is my answer given together with a somewhat troubled smile. “Well, then why don’t you come join us and learn how to?”. “Why not…”.

Things to see in Nicosia: archibishop's palace

The geo-economic situation after WW2 led to the emergence of some strange, distorted, artificial “capital cities” divided between rival countries with militarized borders and frightening walls, passing by straight through the core of some dwellings that are hundred or maybe thousand years old: Berlin was divided between East and West, so was Jerusalem and starting with 1974, Nicosia was split in two: Lefkosia and Lefkosa! There is an interesting news item about Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic offering tickets for space flights at a whopping $ 200000. In comparison a ticket for a zero gravity flight on a 727 goes for a mere $ 4950. A flight to the moon is not yet announced but may cost you anything in the region of $ 100 million. While these exotic tickets may not feature on websites that literally showcase travel all around the world, it only goes to show that tickets are becoming expensive though the world has become a smaller place. How small it is can be gauged by the fact that a popular travel blog is maintained by a traveler who has been to over 89 countries and can give you information on any place on Earth. The website is your ticket to information on travel to known and little known countries around the world.
