Leap Years – the Innovative Emirate of Dubai

Dubai has become something of a global byword for rapid expansion and grand architectural scale. If you’re looking to get a glimpse into the future of city design then Dubai in the United Arab Emirates might well be one of your best bets. This is just one of a number of cities around the world of which the swift evolution gives it a futuristic feel — make two visits five years apart and you might barely recognize the place!

With remarkable developments in all areas of culture and life, you’d be hard pressed not to find something to suit your tastes. This city is paving the way to the future, today.

Inspiring Architecture

Any trip to a major city is incomplete without a visit to at least one of the iconic buildings gracing the skyline. No trip to New York would be complete without seeing the Statue of Liberty, and nobody going to London should miss out on seeing Big Ben. Iconic places to visit in Dubai include the unforgettable Burj Khalifa —the world’s tallest building at 2,722 feet — and the Burj Al Arab, a more modest 321-foot-tall structure that is only just shorter than the Eiffel Tower. These are a must for appreciators of modern architecture.

The Music Scene

If you’d like a spot of music during your trip to Dubai, look no further than the Trilogy Nightclub. Embellished with trappings that combine age-old Moroccan styles with up-to-the-minute nightclub design, this is a place that attracts top-of-the-line DJs from around the world — with a focus on modern electronic music. Just the place if you’re hoping to spend the night losing yourself in the buzzing atmosphere of energetic dance culture.

The Wildlife Experience

City design doesn’t get much more futuristic than buildings that are constructed under the sea. Dubai already has a number of underwater hotels that adjoin to the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo where you can witness all manner of colorful and exotic denizens of the deep. If Dubai is any indication, perhaps it won’t be long before whole underwater cities become a reality in which schools of fish swimming outside your living room window are a common sight.

Something for the Gourmet

After all this traveling, you may find that you have become a bit peckish. If that’s the case then one of the top eateries available to you will be the Rhodes Mezzanine, founded by famed British chef Gary Rhodes. The perfect place if you want to enjoy a real five-star dining experience.

Of course, this only scratches the surface of this vibrant and multi-faceted city. With its speedy evolution, visiting Dubai is likely to leave you feeling like you’ve leapt through time. Who said time travel wasn’t possible?!

Planning to go in the near future.Just wondering, is there any diving spots?

    • Imperator says:

There are not so wonderful diving spots around Emirates, as they got bleached by polution / water temperature increase. You would be better off to go to places like Egypt, Maldives, Thailand.

  6. Will says:

Dubai is such an exercise in superlatives …. anybody that loves modernity and wealth should make it a priority to visit!
